SSC CPO 2026 Notification Out

SSC CPO Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, candidates must make sure they satisfy the nationality, age and educational requirements prescribed for their selected post.

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan subject to the conditions and eligibility certificate requirements specified by the Government of India.

Age Limit

# For most SSC CPO posts, the age limit is 20 to 25 years as on 1 August 2026. Candidates must have been born between 2 August 2001 and 1 August 2006, as specified in the notice.

# For Sub-Inspector (Fire) in CISF, the age requirement is different. Candidates should be between 18 and 30 years as on the prescribed date, with the notification specifying the applicable date-of-birth range.

*Age relaxation is available to eligible reserved categories according to Government rules. The notification specifies 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC, along with applicable provisions for Ex-Servicemen and certain Delhi Police categories.

Educational Qualification

# For Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Sub-Inspector (GD) in CAPFs, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification.
Candidates whose degree result is declared by the closing date may also be considered, subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification.

# For Sub-Inspector (Fire) in CISF, the educational requirement is different. Candidates require a Bachelor's degree in Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, or the prescribed three-year diploma route in specified engineering disciplines.

# For the Delhi Police Sub-Inspector post, male candidates must have a valid LMV driving licence for motorcycle and car on the date specified for the Physical Endurance and Measurement Tests. Male candidates without the required licence can still be eligible for the CAPF SI post, subject to other eligibility requirements.

SSC CPO 2026 Selection Process

The SSC CPO 2026 selection process consists of multiple stages. Candidates must qualify at each applicable stage to progress through the recruitment process.
The broad selection structure is:

  •  Physical Endurance Test (PET)

SSC CPO Exam Pattern 2026

Paper-I

Paper-I contains four sections, with 25 questions and 25 marks in each section.

Paper-II carries 400 marks and has a duration of 1 hour, with sectional timing as prescribed in the notification.
There is negative marking in both papers. 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer in Paper-I, while 0.50 marks are deducted for each wrong answer in Paper-II.

Physical Standard Test (PST)

Physical standards vary according to the post and category.

# For SI in Delhi Police, the general height requirement is 170 cm for male candidates and 157 cm for female candidates, with prescribed relaxations for specified categories and regions.

# For CAPFs, the general male height requirement is 170 cm, while the standard is relaxed for specified hill areas, North-Eastern States, Gorkha candidates and certain Scheduled Tribe categories. The general female height requirement is 157 cm, with applicable relaxations.

The notification also specifies chest measurements for applicable male candidates and states that weight should correspond to height. Female candidates do not have a minimum chest measurement requirement.



Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

The PET is a qualifying stage. Candidates should prepare according to the physical activities specified by SSC.

For Male Candidates

  •  100 metre race – 16 seconds
  •  1.6 km race – 6.5 minutes
  •  Long Jump – 3.65 metres, 3 chances
  •  High Jump – 1.2 metres, 3 chances
  •  Shot Put – 4.5 metres, 3 chances

For Female Candidates

  •  100 metre race – 18 seconds
  •  800 metre race – 4 minutes
  •  Long Jump – 2.7 metres, 3 chances
  •  High Jump – 0.9 metre, 3 chances
The official notice confirms that PST/PET does not carry marks and is qualifying/elimination in nature. Ex-Servicemen are exempt from PET but must fulfil the prescribed PST, written examination and medical requirements.
